Laser Assisted Dentistry

Laser can be used in dentistry for smile design, gingival processes , melanin pigmentation, surgical procedures, removing the sensitivity of the teeth having hot /cold sensitivity , for purifying the microorganisms from root canals during a root canal treatment , during tooth whitening-bleaching , and for accelerating the healing process of the sores and herps is after any operation . Treatment of contagious lesions such as canker sores and herpes is performed with non-contact technique, preventing the spread of virus and bacteria to the suurounding tissues .

An anesthesia is not always required during the laser applications . The risk of bleeding during and after the treatment is lower . After the operation the swelling cases are less and afaster recovery is being observed. The laser application shortens the process time of any treatment procedure, increases the patient’s comfort after the treatment and provides a better quality of tissue healing be accelerating the healing process.

Using the laser in children and pregnant women
The laser can be used safely in children and pregnant women at the appropriate wavelength and in appropriate doses. The removal of the lip-gingival ligament (frenctomy) in children can be performed with the laser without pain, stitches and bleeding. The surface of the immature teeth is opened with laser and this process allows the tooth to come out .In the treatment of gum growth (pyogenic granuloma) which occurs in women during pregnancy and which sometimes reach the size that prevents chewing, the laser provides a non-bleeding treatment without stitches.

Due to these advantages, laser can be easily applied to patients with bleeding disorders, heart problems, dentist phobia, pregnant women and children.

Treatment of gingivitis with laser
The laser energy provides a deep disinfection in the soft tissue by reaching hard-to-reach areas in the tissues to which a sub-gingival curettage was applied in the non-surgical periodontal treatments. With the use of laser, the healing of the gums will be quick and painless ; the risk of recurrence and the need of surgical treatment is reduced in the long term .

In the removal of the lip-gingival ligament (frenectomy), in the vestibuloplasty, in the removal of the dents/hits of the prothesis edges, a very fast, bleeding-free treatment and a very comfortable recovery period is experienced. Especially in patients using prothesis, an area where the tooth brush can be placed is being created with the soft tissue arrangement and the gum edge is not affected by the lip and cheek movements, preventing any gingival recession and gingival pocket formation.

Surgical procedures

After surgical procedures such as implants, impacted tooth extraction, gum operation, a low level laser therapy is being applied to minimize the swelling and the pain. With this treatment it is ensured that the individuals can have a more comfortable recovery period and accelerate the tissue healing.

Using laser in implant treatment
Following the healing process, the soft tissue on the implants is opened with laser without the need for a new surgical intervention and the healing cap is attached

How are jaw joints, clenching, teeth grinding problems treated with the laser?
In case of problems in the jaw joints, in muscle spasms due to clenching and grinding and in jaw locking (trismus) due to the muscle spasms, a low-level laser therapy provides relief in the muscles, joints, reduction in pain and increase in the mouth opening in a short time .

Treatment of dark brown spots (melanin pigmentation ) on the gums
The melanin accumulation, which is mostly seen in the dark-skinned and smoking individuals, are seen especially in the anterior gums as dark coloration areas. Although this gingival discolorations that occur as a result of this pigment accumulation have no effect on the general health, it causes deterioration of the aesthetic appearance, especially in individuals with high laughing lines.

In order to overcome this aesthetic problem, the periodontal surgery and the laser surgery are the most up-to-date treatment approaches. There may be some reversal of depigmented tissues especially in individuals who smoke . Accordingly the smoking cessation is recommended .

Using laser in whitening
In the aesthetic dentistry, the laser application gives more successful results in tooth whitening. The laser activates the whitening gel with the heat it gives without damaging the tooth and provides to the teeth 4-5 times lighter tone colors in a shorter time than the other methods .

Canker Sores-Herpes Labialis-Lesion Treatment
In the treatment of Herpes (herpes simplex) and the canker sores, the scar area inside of the mouth is being scanned with the laser energy. The laser energy ensures the infection to be taken under control and not to be spread and the tissue to be recovered more quickly. When the laser energy is being applied, the aches of the herpes and the canker sores immediately dissapear and the infection no more reoccurs on the same area.

Using laser in tooth sensitivity
The laser is applied to the root surfaces exposed to tooth sensitivity, and the sensitivity is eliminated by ensuring that the dentinal tubules are being closed.

Using laser in the canal treatments
In root canal treatments, the laser application is made inside the canal, providing disinfection in the root canal walls with an antimicrobial effect. This is an application that increases the success by reducing the canal therapy sessions and the risk of recurrence.
